Activities in the region abound in the summer as well as the winter. In the summer, the region is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts with lots of opportunities for mountain hiking, mountain biking, swimming and boating on the lakes, kajaking in the rivers, scenic waterfalls and sightseeing (the famous monastery of Admont with its world heritage library is only an hour’s drive). You can also enjoy the many artistic and cultural offerings, including theatre, music and other art performances throughout the summer.
The Altausseer lake:
The Altausseer lake is located at the foot of the Loser mountain only 300m away from the estate of the Villa Liechtenstein in a breathtaking and dreamlike landscape and is one of the most scenic lakes of the Salzkammergut. The transparent water has a slightly dark blue color. That’s the reason why Lake Altaussee is also called the “dark blue ink barrel”. A 7.5km long path leads around it – one of the most beautiful and relaxing walks you can imagine! Sommersbergersee, the warmest of the lakes in the Ausseerland, is a 10 minute drive. Ödensee is close to Kainisch and a 15-20 minute drive. Grundlsee, the largest lake in the Austrian province of Styria, is only 10 minutes by car across the Tressensattel.
The location of the Villa Liechtenstein Estate is very central for eating out, shopping and enjoying the newly opened Narzissenbad Spa/Thermal/Gym that is a mere 3 km drive away. The location is a perfect starting point for many of the outdoor activities on offer: mountain biking, hiking, mountain running, hang gliding, paragliding, swimming, boating, tennis, golf, downhill skiing, ski touring, cross country skiing, ice skating and snow walking.
The centre of the local summer and winter outdoor activities, the Loser Mountain, is just a 5 minute drive from the villa. In case you want to use public transport, the closest bus and ski bus stop is within 200m walking distance
- The new Narzissenbad Spa is a 5 minute drive and the thermal baths in Bad Mitterndorf are 20 km away.
- The “Salzwelten” salt mine (the largest working salt mine in all of Austria) in Altaussee is a real attraction and a 5 minute drive away
- The 9-hole Bad Aussee Golf Club is only 6km, and the 18-hole Bad Ischl Golf Club is 20km away.
For golfers, the 9-hole Bad Aussee golf club is 6km away, and the 18-hole Bad Ischl golf club is 20km and a 25 minute ride away. In the winter, alpine skiing, cross country skiing and snow shoeing are the key sports activities. Enjoy the well groomed pistes as well as the many off piste runs, or go on backcountry mountain tours with skins. Bad Mitterndorf with its large ski area (“Tauplitz”) is 20km away. Altaussee’s own ski area, the Loser and Sandling mountains is less than 10km from Apartment am Rosengarten. The closest ski bus stop is 50m away. In any event, Altaussee is always a perfect place to start your adventures.
